Industrial Applications of 4A molecular sieves

Table of Contents

Gas & Liquid Deep Drying

4A molecular sieve excels in dehydration, purification, and environmental protection with high selectivity, regenerability, and durability.
  • Natural Gas Dehydration: Lowers water dew point below -70°C to prevent freezing and corrosion in cryogenic equipment.
  • Air Separation: Removes moisture and CO₂, enhancing oxygen, nitrogen, and argon purity.
  • Refrigerant Drying: Eliminates moisture from refrigerants (e.g., R22) to prevent ice blockages and acid corrosion.
  • Solvent Dehydration: Dehydrates ethanol, isopropanol, etc., refining 96% ethanol to 99%+ purity.

Petrochemicals & Catalysis

  • Cracked Gas Purification: Adsorbs acidic gases like H₂S and SO₂, protecting downstream catalysts.
  • FCC & Hydrocracking: Acts as a catalyst carrier to enhance selectivity and efficiency.
  • Olefins Purification: Selectively adsorbs ethylene and propylene, removing larger molecules like propane.

Environmental Protection & Water Treatment

  • Water Softening: Removes Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ ions via ion exchange, replacing traditional sulfonated coal.
  • Wastewater Treatment: Adsorbs NH₄⁺ and heavy metals (Pb²⁺, Cu²⁺) in industrial effluent.
  • Exhaust Gas Purification: Captures SO₂ and CO₂ to meet emission standards.

Consumer Goods & Pharmaceuticals

  • Detergent Additive: Replaces sodium tripolyphosphate, reducing water eutrophication.
  • Toothpaste Abrasive: Controls fluoride release for better cleaning.
  • Pharmaceutical Drying: Provides moisture control for medicine bottles and electronic components.

Other Specialized Applications

  • Coating & Paint Dehydration: Improves product stability and prevents clumping.
  • Metallurgy: Separates potassium, rubidium, cesium from brine.
  • Agricultural Improvement: Adjusts soil water retention and pH balance.

Thanks to its high selectivity, strong regeneration (desorption at 200-350°C), and mechanical durability (attrition rate ≤0.3%), 4A molecular sieve continues to expand in green chemistry and emerging fields like fuel cells and electronic drying.
